What kind of media institution would distribute your media product and why?

As our film is similar to the likes of 'Adulthood' and 'Shifty' (An independent, british made, prodominantly male cast, featuring violence and adult themes) the distributors and producers likely to be intrested in 'The Final View' are the 'Independent Cinema Office'. They are a national (london based) organisation who support British independent film funding and exhibition. They have supported such films as 'Adulthood' and 'New Town Killers'. This Company may be intrested in our film as they usually produce and distribute small independent british cultural films.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The average age for our media product would be roughly 15-40, this is because if it was a full feature length film it would have quite a few intensifying moments, which would be inappropriate for under 15’s. Also the film doesn’t seem to have that much of a twist, therefore The film may not be mature enough for the older members of the audience. Our film most likely appeals to working class (B to C1 members) males, as it is a 'thriller-action' and involves viloence with stereo-typical male themes. Not appealing to a upper class, female or elderly audience. Which means our films most likely would work with an audience similar to that of 'Shifty' or 'adulthood'. Therefore in order fo us to distribute our film effectively, Virally and on sport channel advertisment would be most efficient.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Our main character in our clip is a suited man, showed by powerful and typical male ideaology he is clearly shown to have a successful job due to the use of mise en scene (his suit), and by the building that he has walked out of. He is a typical dominant male role as he displays his power in th way he dresses, moves etc. Our antagonist is also shown as a male dominant role even more so than the 'suited man', he attacks our main character and displays his power by tying him up and tourturing him (similar to that in 'Usual Suspects'). The age of all our characters are portrayed as adults around the age of 21+, this is because of the whole idea of the film using 16 year old character would not have been believeable. In conclusion our film represents young dominant males, and does not speak directly to females or any ethnicity however i feel any of these audiences could enjoy the film as there are traces of emotion and deep issues (when the main character goes out onto the lake to think, this could lead to more deeper emotional twists in the film).

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

For our main task we have made a thriller, I think it fits right in with this genre, as we use intensifying music for a first point, which is a big part in most thrillers. To begin, the opening has a quiet subtle acoustic guitar playing, we have made this quiet so that the audience can also hear the street sounds, as it is based in an urban city area. As the opening carries on, a strong electric guitar structure comes into the clip, we have used this to make the audience know something is about to happen. Also towards the end we included a heartbeat, to show that the main character is becoming worried. At the beginning of our opening we include opening subtitles which are fading in and out, this is also to give the sense of mystery and worry. Some of the shots we use throughout the clip also emphasise the thriller aspect, at certain points we have blurred the shot, to make the main character look dazed and confused as he doesn’t know what is going to happen to him, also towards the end of the clip when the suited man is being suffocated we faded the shot in and out, to show his consciousness. We couldn’t really use much mise en scene for this clip, but we used what we could. We dressed out suited man in a suit to show that he is a successful man, and to show that he is getting on with his life job wise. Also at the end of our opening we have the suited man in a ‘hostage’ style situation, to make this look more realistic we used a dark room, with one spot light, we also had him with duct tape over his mouth to make it look more realistic.

This is our directors commentary of our AS film 'The Final View'

Location and Costume Analysis
The lack of movement and desertedness of this scenery is why we chose this this area. It is within an urban area therefore adhering to the ‘urban buisness man feel’ of the movie clip, however the stillness suggests that it is untouched and in turn a perfect place for our antagonist to strike without detection, thus adding to the sinister mood.

This typical city setting was to create the persona of the businessman and to add to the professional feel. It contrasts to the rest of the film which makes it feel even more surreal.

This was purely for location in order to indicate where our film takes place, (location shot) in the streets of a busy city.

we used a suit (mise on scene) in order to make the character believable, adding a sense of professionalism. a suit connotes power and importance, which helps us get over our message of professionality and the fact that he is powerful, means the attack is all the more suprising.
